Warren Nelson’s final day as commander

Col. Warren Nelson speaking to members of the 185th Fighter Group during a change of command ceremony, where he is relinquishing control of the unit to Lt Col. Dudley Smidt in Sioux City, Iowa on May 18, 1980. Nelson was the last World War II veteran to serve as the 185th Commander, he served with the 185th since its beginnings in 1946 and as the group commander from June 1976 until May 1980.
