Donovan selected for 185th ARW senior enlisted post

The 185th Air Refueling Wing Commander Col. Mark Muckey has announced that Chief Master Sgt. Joe Donovan of Sioux City, Iowa has been selected as the newest Command Chief of the Iowa Air National Guard’s 185th Air Refueling Wing.

The Command Chief is the senior ranking enlisted person in the unit and serves as the senior enlisted representative to the Wing Commander.

Donovan is a 1995 Heelan High School graduate. Following an initial enlistment with the United States Air Force he received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Dakota and earned a master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City.

Donovan will take over from long-time unit member, Command Chief Master Sgt. Tom Fennell, who was selected earlier this year for the top enlisted job in the Iowa Air Guard as the State Command Chief.

Donovan will advise the commander and staff on matters concerning health, welfare, and morale, as well as effective employment of the units 750 enlisted members.

Donovan will also serve as a representative for the commander and the enlisted force on various committees, councils and boards.

Members of the media are invited to attend a formal change of responsibility ceremony planned for the September training weekend. The event will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 1:30 PM in the Fuel Cell hangar at the 185th Air Refueling Wing located at the Sioux City airport.
