The 185th Air Refueling Wing held its second annual food drive over the 2020 holiday season and collected 11,342 pounds of food that will be donated to a local food bank.

“We figured that on average a meal weighs about a pound and a half, so that means (the unit) provided about 7,615 meals,” said Valerie Peterson, Development Director, Food Bank of Siouxland.

All of the collected food was donated to the Food Bank of Siouxland, Sioux City, Iowa which will then distribute the donations to food pantries throughout the community.

The members of the unit nearly doubled the amount of food donated from the previous year when it donated 6,483 pounds.

The food drive, sponsored by the 185th ARW’s Top 3 Council, is set as a contest between squadrons with the winning squadron receiving a traveling trophy and a squadron party.

The Civil Engineering Squadron retained the trophy for a second consecutive year by collecting 8,720 pounds which average of 110.4 pounds per member.

Second place went to Security Forces with 1,148 pounds or 18.5 pounds per member and the Logistics Readiness Squadron came in third place with 645 pounds or 6.1 pounds per member.

The Top 3 Council is made up of the highest three enlisted ranks and works to contribute to the morale and welfare of the enlisted corp.
