National Guard Bureau Chief to visit Sioux City’s 185th Air Refueling Wing

The Chief of the National Guard Bureau, General Daniel R. Hokanson is scheduled to visit the 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City, Iowa on Monday August 9, 2021.

As the Chief of the National Guard Bureau and as a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Hokanson is the senior most member of the U.S. Army National Guard and Air National Guard.

This is the first time in the unit’s history that a sitting member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has visited the Sioux City air base.

Gen. Hokanson’s visit also coincides with the 75th anniversary of the 185th ARW since the unit was established in Western Iowa in 1946, following the 2nd World War.

General Hokanson is visiting Sioux City by invitation of Colonel Mark Muckey, 185th ARW Wing Commander.  During the visit, Muckey plans to highlight the unit’s mission and its members as well as the Air Guard unit’s unique relationship with the Siouxland community.

Members of the media are invited to attend a short media event at the Air Guard facility at the Sioux City airport, with Gen. Hokanson prior to his departure on August 9, 2021.

News agencies who plan to attend, reporter’s names are requested by 2:00 pm Saturday Aug. 7, 2021 in order to allow access to the base. Reporters are asked to arrive at the Air Guard facility by 2:15 PM on the 9th in order to be in place for a short statement from the National Guard Bureau Chief.
