The Security Forces Squadron at the Iowa Air National Guard’s 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City, Iowa conducted their annual domestic operations training during the June training weekend.

According to Master Sgt. Micah Larson, the DOMOPS training is an annual requirement for security forces members.

“We’ve been tasked from the National Guard Bureau to provide 26 person response element for domestic operations involving riots, site security, and quick reaction,” said Larson.

Larson, who is the base Security Forces Unit Training Manager, explained that other members on base were also involved in the exercise.

“We asked volunteers from across base to act like angry people, to throw things, and yell, and give our defenders an opportunity to deal with a larger crowd than we can provide,” said Larson.

The training also had members from the Woodbury County Sheriffs Office to help instruct the exercise.

Larson explained training is important so they can appropriately use force and resolve civil disorder situations in the safest manner possible.
