Media representatives are invited to attend a career fair event at the Iowa Air National Guard on April 25, 2024, from 9:30AM to 12:30PM hosted by the 185th Air Refueling Wing at the Sioux City Airport.

Students from Sioux City and surrounding communities are invited to explore nearly 100 different careers available at the Sioux City Air Guard.

Most jobs are considered “traditional” or part time, however there are nearly 300 full time employees who are involved in daily operations at the Air Refueling Wing.

Traditional careers in the National Guard allow members to attend drill primarily on training weekends plus two weeks each year while also attending college or working full time at a civilian job.

Benefits for Iowa National Guard members include 100% state tuition assistance to Iowa’s universities and community colleges. Tuition assistance can also be used to offset tuition at Iowa private colleges. Other incentives include low-cost health and life insurance as well as retirement benefits.

During the career fair students will be able to talk to unit members about aviation related careers. The unit also has dozens of technical occupations in support activities like supply, finance, construction, cyber security, vehicle operations, firefighting, base security, and many others.

Professional careers are also available in medicine, engineering, logistics and other management careers for those interested in completing college and obtaining a commission.

National Guard membership also comes with paid technical training.  Air Guard members are also awarded undergraduate college credit while attending Air Force Technical Training. Some Air Force training offers professional certificates that can be used in civilian careers like computer network operations.

Admission representatives from Iowa’s three state universities along with area private and community colleges also plan to be available at the event.

An explanation of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB, and practice test questions can be found on the Air Force recruiting page.
