Master Sgt. Marty Hogan of the Iowa, Air National Guard's 185th Air Refueling Wing (ARW), accepted the baton as spokesperson for the Race for Hope. The June E. Nylen Cancer Center selected the 185th ARW as the Honorary Race Ambassador for this year's event. This is the first time a group has been chosen to lead the Race for Hope.

"The 185th ARW considers it to be a great honor to be selected as this year's ambassadors," said Hogan. "The 185th prides itself on a long-standing tradition of positive community presence. It is in this presence that we are allowed to return the great partnership and support shown to us by the local Siouxland community."

The Race for Hope is planned for Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 with registration opening at 7:30 a.m. The 15 kilometer competitive run and walk/Kids Fun Run will start at 8:30 a.m. and the 5 kilometer competitive run and walk. Team Competition will start at 9:00 a.m. Early Packet pickup will be Friday, Sept. 17 at the Cancer Center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"The Race for Hope has seen an increase in the number of unit and family members volunteering and participating each year. This event allows members a unique opportunity to combine their fitness goals, and increase unit morale and team building." said MSgt Hogan. "Cancer has touched a great majority of us all and the 185th membership is no different," Hogan said. "Many of our family, friends, and co-workers have been affected and this year the 185th will be challenging our members to run as a team, as an individual, and to keep in mind that we are running for a cause larger than any one of us." Hogan extended a special invitation to all 185th ARW members and their families to participate.
