12/16/09-Sioux City-- The 185th Air Refueling Wing, annual "Holiday Project" donated over two and a half tons of food and toiletry items to the Gospel Mission, Salvation Army, Food Bank of Siouxland, and Siouxland Community Action Agency this year.

Robert Debuhr, a cook at the Gospel Mission, said "we serve 100 to 175 people every day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's nice to see you guy's give food, this is Gods hands at work."

Over seventy-five Airmen volunteered to help out with the food drive this year. Some were at the Salvation Army sorting through food and making over 800 gift boxes for those less fortunate during the holidays.

Master Sgt. Barb Welsh said "Four thousand pounds of chocolate was donated by Palmer candy, and we helped package it in over two hours. It was wonderful, we had a good time."

At the Food Bank, another assembly line of 185th members sorted through canned goods and a few helped with painting the offices. Linda Scheid, Executive Director, was grateful and thankful. "It was wonderful to have the help and it was so appreciated."

Tech Sgt. Noelle Jacobs of the 185th (ARW), one of many who helped organize the project, was happy for the great job everyone did. "We are Siouxland. The 185th is part of the community and this is an opportunity for us to give back."

All the agencies were grateful to see the military volunteering and helping their community.
