The Department of Defense (DOD) and the National Guard Bureau have announced that selected Airmen from the Iowa Air National Guard's 185th Air Refueling Wing, Sioux City, Iowa, deployed for active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), Operation Iraqi Freedom and the Global War on Terrorism.

In May approximately 100 Airmen deployed for active duty to Southwest Asia as part of the ongoing war operations. The 185th ARW will be conducting air refueling missions over Afghanistan and Iraq. Over 900 members of the 185th ARW have deployed since 9/11 in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

Colonel Brian Miller, Commander of the 185th ARW, expressed his gratitude to the families of unit members. "I realize that great sacrifices are made by the families, and I appreciate their efforts." He also expressed thanks to employers for extra effort needed during the absence of their employees.

The 185th Air Refueling Wing, which dates back to 1946 in Sioux City, recently completed converting to the KC-135R Stratotanker and employs almost 1,000 people.
