Winter Blast: Another Successful Family Evening Published June 3, 2008 By Tech. Sgt. Mark Soule 185ARW 02/04/08 -- "Winter Blast" is a time to use all that extra energy building up over the winter months. This year's Winter Blast held on February 2, at the Long Lines Family Recreation Center. "We had a great time," said Nikki Prosser, wife of 185th member Tech. Sgt. Michael Prosser. "It was a huge success and we can't wait to do it again next year." Where else would you want to be on a Saturday evening but 40 feet above the ground hanging only some tiny pegs attached to a simulated rock wall? Many young climbers did just that. "No fear" was their motto. As for the older crowd, the typical response was "you won't catch me on that wall." Numerous other energetic events included volleyball, basketball, and dodge ball. Each tested teamwork skills in both the younger and "older" crowd. The little ones had fun playing games; wheeling around on scooters, riding big wheels and bouncing balls. While fun was happening on the courts, others enjoyed the hot dogs, chips, refreshments and cookies. "I just want to extend a big thanks to everyone who stepped up to help with the planning and execution of our Annual Winter Blast," said retired Master Sgt. Lori Risdal who is now the 185th Family Support Coordinator. "We had approximately 350 Iowa Air and Army Guard military members, families and friends. They all had a great time playing, eating and climbing." Risdal commented that without a strong group of volunteers, events like this would be impossible. "It's great to know I can count on the 185th Family to do the job right!" said Risdal.
