185th ARW to hold contingency response unit activation ceremony

SIOUX CITY, Iowa --  

The 185th Air Refueling Wing is holding a unit activation ceremony for its new 270th Contingency Response Squadron on June 27, 2026.   

CR forces provide a rapid ability to set up initial airbases in established or austere environments and perform airfield functions before follow-on forces arrive. CR also works domestically providing abilities for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. 

After the ceremony, an equipment ‘show-and-tell' will be held to show what the unit’s mission will look like in the future. 

Media are invited to the ceremony on June 27, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the main hangar at the Sioux City, Iowa, Air National Guard facility. Ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.
