185th Airmen Shoot Past the Competition At Marksmanship Match

HASTINGS, NEBRASKA --  Two Airmen with the 185th Air Refueling Wing's Security Forces Squadron won top honors in the Novice category at the MAC-V Regional Marksmanship Match held in Hastings, Nebraska on August 21 to 23, 2014.

Staff Sgt. Micah Larson won 1st place in the Novice Pistol and Rifle categories and Tech. Sgt. Michael Simoni won 2nd in the Novice Pistol category.

"It was a great experience to get out and compete against some of the best shots in the state and the region," said Staff Sgt. Micah Larson.

The MAC-V Regional Marksmanship Match is sponsored by the National Guard Marksmanship Training Center based in Little Rock, Arkansas and is open to members of the Army and Air National Guard.

The Airmen joined with members of the Iowa Army Guard to form Team Alpha which placed 6th in the team competition.

The match had 85 individual marksman and 17 teamswho competed in 8 individual matches and 4 team matches.

Matches during the competition were geared towardsplacing shooters under the kind of stress they would experience in combat.

"The events were timed or required us to run to a firing line which all adds stress to finding a stable shooting platform," said Larson.

Both Airmen have been invited to compete at the national match which is being held in April of 2015 at the National Guard Marksmanship Training Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.

"I am looking forward to represent the 185th in a field that is not often thought of as an Air Guard skill," Said Larson on the upcoming competition.
