National Guard Marathon

Senior Airman Melisa Knight crosses the finish line at the National Guard Marathon in Lincoln Nebraska. Knight is an intelligence specialist with the Iowa Air Guards 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City, Iowa. The event was held on May 2, 2010 and is in its 33rd year. This year's event was one of the largest ever, attracting nearly 8000 runners. Each Guardsman must run a half marathon within the year at a rate of 8 minutes per mile to qualify for the race; women must run 9 minutes per mile. The top 40 National Guard runners to cross the finish line become members of the All-Guard team for the year, enabling them to compete in events across the country.
