SATHER AIR BASE, Iraq – Lt. Col. (Dr.) Nolan Carson, the 447th Expeditionary Medical Squadron’s sole dental surgeon, examines a patient’s teeth for cavities May 6 at the medical clinic here. Dr. Carson is an Air National Guardsman and a Yankton S.D. native deployed to the 447th EMEDs from the 185th Air Refueling Wing, Sioux Gateway Airport/Colonel Bud Day Field, Sioux City, Iowa. He is responsible for providing dental care for more than 800 personnel assigned to Sather. He also serves as Sather’s triage officer in the event of mass casualty accidents or attacks. The 447th Air Expeditionary Group commander, Col. Jon Andre, recently recognized Dr. Carson for his outstanding performance as the base’s dental surgeon. Dr. Carson’s dental clinic is one of eight located in the U.S. Central Command military area of responsibility and is the second most productive clinic in the AOR, despite having a smaller staff than others.
