Colonel Sonya L. Morrison

Colonel Sonya L. Morrison is the Wing Commander of the Iowa Air National Guard’s 185th Air Refueling Wing. Colonel Morrison was commissioned in 1999 through the Army ROTC program at the University of Northern Iowa. Following the completion of rotary wing pilot training, she served as a Platoon Leader and then as a Cavalry Troop Commander. Morrison has served full time at Iowa Joint Forces Headquarters in various assignments. In 2005 she transferred to the Iowa Air National Guard and attended KC-135 Undergraduate Pilot Training. Morrison has served full-time as the Executive Assistant to The Adjutant General, the Executive Officer for the state Counterdrug Command, the Officer in charge of the Midwest Counterdrug Training Center and as the Commander of the Counterdrug Task Force. While assigned to Iowa JFHQ as the Military Personnel Management Officer she continued to fly the KC-135 with the 185th ARW. Colonel Morrison is a Command Pilot with more than 2,000 flying hours in fixed and rotary wing aircraft. She has flown over 500 combat hours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Freedom Sentinel and Operation Inherent Resolve.
