185th TFG first inspection 1962

Iowa Air National Guard 185th Tactical Fighter Group Commander, Lt Colonel Don Forney talks with members of a federal inspection team in Sioux City ANG base on October 13, 1962, shortly after 185th Tactical Fighter Group’s 1 October 1962 federal recognition. The inspection was part of the Iowa Air Guard’s 185th TFG being federally recognized in Sioux City where the 174th Tactical Fighter Squadron had been in operation since the end of the 2nd World War. The creation of the 185th TFG grew the unit to over 800 airmen, doubling the size of the Iowa ANG unit. 185th TFG photo 185th TFG photo
