B-roll video shows Iowa Air National Guard Chief Master Sgt. Ron Lorenzen being installed as the 185th Air Refueling Wing’s, newest Command Chief Master Sgt.

As the Command Chief Lorenzen is the senior ranking enlisted person in the unit and serves as the senior enlisted representative for the Wing Commander.

Lorenzen is a Sioux City, Iowa native who graduated from North High School in 1991. After high school, Lorenzen enlisted in the United States Air Force. He began his active duty career as an aircraft maintainer on the KC-10 Extender mid-air refueling aircraft, while stationed at March Air Force Base in California.

Following his initial enlistment with the Air Force, Lorenzen returned to Sioux City where he enlisted in the Air National Guard as a traditional guard member.

Soon after returning to Sioux City, Lorenzen accepted a full time job at the 185th where he began working in aircraft maintenance as a crew chief. In an interesting twist, shortly after Lorenzen returned to Iowa, the 185th began transitioning to an air refueling mission with the KC-135.

During his tenure with the unit Lorenzen eventually made his way to his current position as the Maintenance Group Superintendent. Lorenzen has taken over the Command Chief position from, Chief Master Sgt. Joe Donovan, who is retiring after 26 years’ service.

As the Command Chief, Lorenzen will advise the commander and staff on matters concerning health, welfare, and morale, as well as effective employment of the units 839 enlisted members. Lorenzen will also serve as a representative for the commander and the enlisted force on various committees, councils and boards.
